How to make crowbar work

April 20, 2017

At SUSE we have a tool called crowbar for deploying OpenStack clouds.

However, sometimes it can run into unexpected states and it is a bit tricky to get out there again. That is why I want to document here how to do that.

crowbar reset_proposal dns
crowbar reset_nodes
for m in `crowbar machines list|grep ^d` ; do
  ssh $m "
    rm -rf /var/chef/cache/pause-file.lock* ;
    rcchef-client restart"

That’s it.

openQA got even better this week

Dezember 2, 2011

I had written earlier on my work towards automated OS testing.
This week, openQA.o.o got even better.
The more visible and useful improvement is that you can now download harddisk-images from the 19 most recently completed testruns. Testruns that did not write anything to HDD will lack the download link.
Since openQA runs nightly tests of Debian/testing for some weeks, you can also download those disk images in the morning.
After uncompressing the file with gunzip, you can fire up a VM on Linux with a line like
img=... ; qemu-kvm -m 1000 -net user -net nic,model=virtio,macaddr=52:54:00:12:34:56 -drive file=$img,if=virtio,boot=on -usb -usbdevice tablet -monitor stdio -redir tcp:2222::22 -soundhw ac97

and (if the install was any good) log in with username bernhard or root and password nots3cr3t
If you disable the firewall and start sshd, you can also ssh from the outside to port 2222 on the host machine
i.e. ssh -p 2222 root@localhost

Another nearly invisible change is that Dominik Heidler rewrote many of the CGIs to use a Template engine, making both the code and the markup much more readable and maintainable.

Also in the News:
I recently heard from two people who wanted to look into using my framework to test Ubuntu/Unity (using the new VirtualBox backend for 3D) and Mandriva.
And I have merged the first external contributions from Alex Bennée.
All of this activity makes me happy as it indicates that OS-autoinst and openQA are considered useful by many people in the FOSS community…

HDTV over IP

August 16, 2009

vlc rtp://@ #ARD
vlc rtp://@ #ZDF
